Russell Downing wins the Tour of Ireland
CandiTV/Marshalls Pasta rider Russell Downing this weekend beat some of the sports best riders, including Britain's Mark Cavendish and 7 times Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong, surpassing all achievements so far by becoming the 2009 Tour of Ireland winner.
A win in stage 1 and a competitive race in stage 2 put Russell in a strong position at the start of stage 3 in Bantry, County Cork. Despite narrowly missing out on the win in a photo finish with Lars Petter Nordhaug in stage 3, it was enough for Russell to take the Tour and points competition.
