Four Marshalls Pasta riders were among almost 200 cyclists in the East Midlands International CiCLE Classic on Sunday, which also included top racers from The Netherlands, Czech Republic and Denmark.
A tough course with several off-road and hill sections along the 110 mile route to Melton Mowbray saw Malcolm Elliott came an unlucky 13th, after puncturing at a crucial point.
Afterwards, Malcolm - a former winner of the Cicle Classic - said, "Three times out of the last four, I have punctured in the same place. Just coming off the top of highest part of that Somerberg section. I heard this stone clip my wheel and clip the tyre and it blew straight away. I was going down hill and on bumps like that, you can't ride it far at all. Neutral service came up after some time but as soon as I did it I knew how long it was. I must have lost well over a minute before I got going again and you don't make that up on your own".
The race was won, in a sprint finish, by Michael Berling of the Danish Glud & Marstrand team.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team are at the Tour Of Brittany flying the flag for Great Britain. Ian Bibby, James Sampson, Ed Clancy, Jonny McEvoy, Andrew tennant and Pete Williams are riding the 7 stage race which started in Jersey on the 25th and finishes in Dinan on the 1st of May. Next weekend, the boys will be double teaming again at the Tour Of Ulster from 1st to 3rd May, and at the Chas Messenger on 2nd May.
